Why VAPORTIGHT COAT?
These epoxy primers are designed for virtually all applications and work on both new and existing concrete slabs.
VAPORTIGHT COAT for Old Concrete:
If the concrete slab is more than 20 years old, it is likely that original vapor barrier is no longer performing the way it was intended. This is because the plastic sheeting that is used for under slab vapor barriers deteriorates over time. A damaged under slab vapor barrier will allow moisture from the ground to rise upwards through the concrete, which can cause substantial damage to the finished flooring system or floor coating system. Aquafin’s VAPORTIGHT COAT-SG products protect flooring and coatings from the damaging effects of ground moisture.
VAPORTIGHT COAT for Oil Contaminated Concrete:
VAPORTIGHT COAT-SG2 has been proven for more than 20 years to be an effective sealer over existing concrete slabs that have been contaminated by oil such as those located in fleet vehicle maintenance facilities, automotive repair shops, and food processing areas. When combined with degreasing measures, SG2 will stop additional oils from continuing to wick through the slab and provide a safe surface for installing protective coatings. VAPORTIGHT COAT for New Concrete:
New concrete slabs – especially those less than 28 days old – can emit tremendous amounts of moisture vapor due to the water left over from the cement hydration process. VAPORTIGHT COAT products are incredibly effective at protecting traffic bearing membranes, deck coatings, floor coating systems, and even roofing systems from the harmful effects of high moisture levels in new concrete. VAPORTIGHT COAT-SG products are all tested and rated to handle MVER of up to 25lbs per 1000 sf per 24 hours (tested via ASTM F1869) and RH of 100% (tested via ASTM F2170).
VAPORTIGHT COAT for Design-Build and Fast-Track Construction Projects:
The Design-Build method of construction project delivery expedites the construction process by enabling construction
work to begin before most of the project drawings are complete.
- This means when construction starts, the final selection of finished flooring has not yet been determined
- An application of VAPORTIGHT COAT-SG2 followed by at least ¼” of Aquafin’s LEVEL-One EZ creates a suitable substrate for a wide-variety of flooring adhesives and finished flooring types.
Fast-Track Construction condenses the construction schedule by allowing activities to be performed in parallel. Multistory buildings are constructed from start to finish in a matter of months, instead of years
- Aquafin’s VAPORTIGHT COAT products can be installed over 5-day old concrete!
- This allows for the subsequent installation of traffic bearing membranes, deck coatings, moisture sensitive finished flooring systems, and roofing systems.
